LSU med school program coming to UL

by Heather Miller

A partnership between LSU and ULL will bring a specialized three-year M.D. program to Lafayette starting in July 2013.

Beginning in July 2013, UL Lafayette will host a satellite campus for a select group of LSU Medical School students entering a specialized, three-year medical degree program.

KATC reports that the program, only available to Louisiana residents, will accept 40 students per year and teach a curriculum exclusively for primary care physicians.

UL Lafayette Interim Vice-President of Academic Affairs Dr. Carolyn Bruder tells KATC that primary care represents the state's "greatest need for doctors."

"It's great for Lafayette," she says.

The program will include instruction from both UL and LSU faculty, according to KATC, with all classes to be held at UL and clinical rotations to take place at University Medical Center.
