**UL head football coach Mark Hudspeth made it official this week, telling media at a sports luncheon that he will "definitely" be the team's coach next season. Hud also said he and the university are working on a new contract for the first-year coach, a contract UL says would make him the highest paid coach in the Sun Belt Conference. Hud was interviewed for the vacant head coaching position at Ole Miss recently, and his name has swirled in the rumor mill since the Ragin' Cajuns wrapped up an 8-4 (6-2 Sun Belt) regular season and accepted an invitation to the Dec. 17 New Orleans Bowl. On Sunday we finally learned the Cajuns' opponent in the game: the San Diego State Aztecs.

**Unfortunately, the social media rumors proved to be true: Guamas on Jefferson is closed. The well-regarded eatery was shuttered over the weekend after a decade on Jefferson Street and a few years near campus before that. Guamas' Cuban-influenced South American cuisine was an exercise in gastronomic creativity. Co-owner Rubens Mesa blamed chain restaurants and an economic climate unkind to small restaurants for Guamas' downfall, telling The Ind the restaurant may reopen in a few years, which his wife and fellow co-owner, Julieta Tarazona, sort of confirmed on Facebook when she hinted the establishment might change locations.

**Who dat say dey gonna beat them Saints? Not the couillon-riddled Detroit Lions. The NFC North playoff contenders demonstrated a stunning lack of discipline in committing 11 penalties for 107 yards in the Saints' 31-17 victory in the Superdome Sunday night. Gaffes included three offensive pass interference calls and three personal fouls, the nadir of which was tight end Brandon Pettigrew's ill-advised shove of an official. The Lions went into the game short-handed on defense, most notably without the services of defensive line stud Ndamukong Suh, who was suspended for the first of two games following his knuckled-headed stomping of an opposing player on Thanksgiving. The Lions outgained the Saints and outplayed them for much of the second half, but thanks to their immaturity - and Saints QB Drew Brees' stellar first half - the Black & Gold walked away with a two-game lead in the NFC South.
