The Heymann Center invites you to hear Ellis Marsalis perform alongside the Acadiana Symphony Orchestra, the Youth Orchestra and several local elementary schools.

Marsalis performs jazz compositions and seasonal songs with swing put into them. He is the patriach of the Marsalis family, with several of his children becoming internationally known musicians themselves. Marsalis is in the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame, and this year for the first time the National Endowment for the Arts honored an entire family as opposed to an individual.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Trynd Café will be offering food. Santa and some elves will be there to hear your holiday wishes and there is even a photobooth. The Acadiana Symphony Youth Orchestra will play before the main show.

The local elementary schools participating are Pope John Paul II, Sts. Leo-Seton Catholic School, J. Wallace James, Plantation, Charles Burke and Alice Boucher. The Boys and Girls Club of Acadiana will perform, too. This is especially important to Marsalis who largely eschewed the spotlight to focus on teaching music in his native New Orleans.

The band onstage will be Ellis Marsalis on his piano, Germaine Bazzle on vocals, Jason Stewart on bass, Derek Douget on saxophone and Darrian Douglas on drums.

Ring Heymann Center's ticket office at 291-5555 for ticket information.
