San Diego State draws first blood, but the Cajuns have some solid defensive stops early.

NEW ORLEANS Not the smoothest start for the Ragin' Cajuns, even though they stopped San Diego State running back Ronnie Hillman for negative yards on three of his first four touches. But UL still held the Aztecs to a field goal on their first possession.
An offsides penalty and a 17-yard strike from Aztec quarterback Ryan Lindley to Marcus Russell on a third-and-15 gave SDSU two opening-drive first downs. Then, on third-and-19, Lindley found a hole in the secondary and hit Dylan Denso with a 46-yard pass to the Cajun 4.
A stop of Hillman for a loss of six yards, though, forced SDSU into Abelardo Perez' 27-yard field goal, giving the Aztecs the early 3-0 lead after an 11-play, 53-yard drive. Hillman had four carries for minus 11 yards in the drive.
