Cameron Int'l loses appeal in BP liability trial

Cameron International, one of the companies facing lawsuits over the April 2010 Deepwater Horizon explosion and spill, has failed in its attempt to block a non-jury trial planned for February before a federal judge in New Orleans.

Cameron International, one of the companies facing lawsuits over the April 2010 Deepwater Horizon explosion and spill, has failed in its attempt to block a non-jury trial planned for February before a federal judge in New Orleans. In that trial, U.S. District Judge Carl Barbier will decide which companies should face liability claims. Likely to face the brunt of claims are BP, Transocean Ltd., Halliburton and Cameron.

Barbier cited maritime law in ruling that a non-jury trial is appropriate for assigning liability, a ruling Cameron appealed to the 5th Circuit. The 5th Circuit panel rejected Cameron's appeal.
