Ind contributing writer Jeremy Alford, writing for The Political Desk and citing sources, is reporting today that Rep. Joel Robideaux, R-Lafayette, has been appointed chairman of the Ways & Means Committee, the House's chief tax-writing panel.

Robideaux, who switched from independent to Republican last fall in a bid to be elected speaker of the House, expressed an interest in the post after it became clear he would not be elected speaker. The Lafayette pol is a certified public accountant by trade. Robideaux ultimately lost the speaker post to Lake Charles Republican Rep. Chuck Kleckley, who became the favored candidate of Gov. Bobby Jindal.
