LSU backs out of beer deal

by Walter Pierce

Apparently fully sobered after getting its gluteus maximus spanked by Alabama's Crimson Tide Monday night, LSU announced Wednesday it is cancelling plans for a university-licensed beer.

Apparently fully sobered after getting its gluteus maximus spanked by Alabama's Crimson Tide Monday night, LSU announced Wednesday it is cancelling plans for a university-licensed beer. Chancellor Michael Martin made the announcement, according to The Advocate, citing a disagreement with the LSU System over the legality of the deal with Tin Roof Brewing of Baton Rouge. The LSU System, which governs the Baton Rouge campus, argued the deal would have violated LSU's contract with the Collegiate Licensing Company.

Not coincidentally perhaps, the announcement came on the heels of a Wall Street Journal article titled "You Can't Spell Lush' Without LSU" that focused largely on the university's legendary tailgating and frequent high position in various "party school" rankings. The article also made mention of the pending deal to create LSU Bandit Blonde Ale with the capitol city brewery.
