The Louisiana Ethics Administration will decide Thursday whether Holly Boffy, a Lafayette resident and recently elected District 7 representative on the state Board of Elementary and Secondary Education, can continue to hold a job as a paid consultant for a national, nonprofit education group.
[Update: Boffy was cleared by the Ethics Board to remain a paid consultant with CCSSO.]
The Louisiana Ethics Administration will decide Thursday whether Holly Boffy, a Lafayette Parish resident and recently elected District 7 representative on the state Board of Elementary and Secondary Education, can continue to hold a job as a paid consultant for a national, nonprofit education group. Boffy requested the advisory opinion from the board last November, about a month after she defeated incumbent Dale Bayard for the District 7 seat.
The nonprofit in question is the Council of Chief State School Officers, a group that encourages best practices among public-school administrators and staff nationwide. Boffy is a consultant for CCSSO's Educator Evaluations Program, which the state of Louisiana doesn't participate in, although the state Department of Education is a member and pays membership dues. BESE and the state DOE, however, are separate agencies.
A board attorney who researched the case is recommending that Boffy, the 2010 Louisiana Teacher of the Year award recipient, be allowed to remain on the CCSSO payroll.
