Cinema on the Bayou set to roll

Cinema on the Bayou kicks off at downtown Lafayette's Acadiana Center for the Arts Wednesday evening at 7:30 p.m. along with the world premiere of the movie Délivrance about the Acadians at 6:30 p.m. Throughout the weekend filmmakers and fans gather to watch different films and attend Q&A panels. Many movies will make worldwide or Louisiana premieres.

AcA, LITE, Pack & Paddle and Lafayette Public Libarary South Regional Branch are each taking turns hosting different events. The film festival runs through Sunday.

The schedule of events is as follows:

Jan. 25 at AcA: 6:30 p.m. is the U.S. premiere of Délivrance and at 7:30 p.m. the opening reception featuring New Brunswick filmmakers Donovan Richard and Danny Thebeau. Admission is $10.

Jan. 26 at Pack and Paddle: 3 p.m. is the Advanced Red One Camera production on location with six filmmakers. 6 p.m. the Louisiana premiere of the short film Ice Philosophy. At 6:15 p.m. Asiemut. 7:30 p.m. reception for Québécois filmmakers Mélanie Carrier and Olivier Higgins. These events are free.

Jan. 27 at LITE: 1:30 p.m. Make Em Dance: The Hackberry Ramblers Story with producer Ben Sandmel. At 3 p.m. Puppet.  At 4:30 p.m. is the Louisiana premiere of Happy. All events are free before 6 p.m.  Starting at 6 p.m. again is Ice Philosophy with Canadian filmmakers night  - $5 includes films, panel discussion and reception. At 6:15 p.m. is the Louisiana premiere of Encounters. For 7:15 p.m.  Filmmaking Across Linguistic Lines: A Bilingual Discussion with Four French Canadian Filmmakers. 7:45 p.m. reception and at 8:30 p.m. Louisiana premiere of Remembering Arthur.

Jan. 28 at AcA: 10 a.m. Wrestling for Jesus. 11:30 a.m. Howard Citizen with filmmakers Sharon Donnan and Kathryn Bojorquez and Mr. Howard Citizen. 12:30 p.m. Mississippi Innocence. At 1:45 p.m. Narrative Shorts Series. Running simultaneously is Fingers with filmmaker JonGunnar Gylfason. At 2:30 p.m. the short film Shock with filmmaker Chris Spear. 2:45 p.m. Bingo Bandito with filmmaker Bart Wild. 3:30 p.m. Holding His Rabbits with Filmmaker Ji Choi. 3:45 p.m. Keeper of the Flame with executive producer Cherice Harrison-Nelson. 4:30 p.m. the panel discussion So You Think You Can Make A Film, But Can You Do It Legally? Panel Discussion with Entertainment Attorney Suzette Toledano. 5:15 p.m. How NOT to Make a Film Panel Discussion with Austin filmmakers Eric Hueber and Andy Cope. 5:45 p.m. is the Texas Filmmakers Film Series. 5:45 p.m. Where the Heck Is Medicine Mound, Texas? 6p.m. Rainbows End with filmmakers Eric Hueber and Andy Cope. Admission to either panel is free. For the movies it is $15 for a day pass or $5 per film.

Jan. 28 at Lafayette Public Library South Regional Branch: 10 a.m. Bridge to War Eagle. 10:45 a.m. The Fading Cajun Culture with filmmaker Ray Breaux. At noon Operation Sussex with filmmaker Bonnie Friedman. 1:15 p.m.  Colores del Carnaval Dominicano with filmmakers Rubén Durán and Donna Pinnick. 2:30 p.m. Carnival Traditions of the Dominican Republic Panel Discussion with folklorist Dr. Carl Lindahl. Closing the library's day at 3:15 p.m. is The Natural State of America with producer Dr. Brian Campbell. All of these events are free.

Jan. 29 at the AcA: at noon A Weaverly Path: The Tapestry Life of Silvia Heyden. 1:15 p.m. Délivrance with filmmakers Donovan Richard and Danny Thebeau. 2:15 p.m.  A Conversation With Actors On Acting In Film with Robyn Nolting and Danny Thebeau. 2:45 p.m. Encounters with filmmakers Melanie Carrier and Olivier Higgins. At 4 p.m. it is Joe Frazier: When The Smoke Clears. 5:30 p.m. Closing party and awards ceremony with refreshments and music by David Egan and Johanna Divine. These films are also $15 for a day pass or $5 per event. Panel discussions are free.

Jan. 29 at Lafayette Public Library South Regional Branch: 1:15 p.m. Puppet, 2:45 p.m. Bridge to War Eagle. 3:30 p.m. Happy. All these events are free of charge.
