University officials are holding a press conference at 2 p.m. Tuesday to unveil its new bike path along Johnston Street and Cajundome Boulevard, the second phase of a $1.2 million project crafted by the UL School of Architecture and Design's Community Design Workshop.
The new bike path along Johnston Street and Cajundome Boulevard is part of a bigger plan to eventually create a jogging and biking path that will connect the Research Park on Cajundome Boulevard with UL's campus, according to the Community Design Workshop website.
The project was funded by a state Department of Transportation and Development Enhancement Grant, which looks to develop biking and jogging paths along major roadways, including the installation of lighting and landscape.
It's unclear yet whether the new path could eventually be a part of the visions of the Horse Farm, which plans to include the construction of bike paths that link Johnston Street to Girard Park as well as St. Martin and Vermilion parishes through the Attakapas-Ishak trail.
