Roemer drops R, seeks independent bid

After months of being marginalized by the GOP establishment, former Louisiana Gov. Buddy Roemer is parting ways with the Republican Party.

After months of being marginalized by the GOP establishment, former Louisiana Gov. Buddy Roemer is parting ways with the Republican Party and will continue his quest for the White House as an independent, announcing that he will seek the presidency via a third-party ticket.

The Advocate is reporting that the one-term governor and former congressman seek the nomination of both Americans Elect and The Reform Party. The former is a non-partisan political group hosting a first-ever online primary and promises to get its ticket on ballots in all 50 states; the latter was founded in 1995 by one-time presidential candidate and billionaire businessman Ross Perot.

Campaigning largely on a theme centered around the corrupting influence of money in American politics, Roemer has been shunned by both the GOP and the major television networks. He appeared in none of the nearly two dozen Republican debates held thus far.
