Lafayette nonprofit Hearts of Hope is hosting a fundraising event encouraging men to literally walk a mile in a woman's shoes - high heels, that is.

The "Walk a Mile in Her Shoes" awareness walk will be held April 28 at the River Ranch Town Square. Men who wish to sign up ask for pledges from family, friends and coworkers and its entirety goes to the Hearts of Hope. The event's name stems from the idea that you don't know what someone has been through until you walk a mile in their shoes - this march takes a metaphor literally and puts it to great use.

Hearts of Hope is a refuge and information center for adult and childhood victims of sexual assault and abuse. Money raised stays in Acadiana and helps its citizens survive trauma. It also focuses on helping law enforcement and medical personnel know how to speak with those who have been victimized in such a way.

Sponsorship levels range from $1,000 to $10,000 for the April 28 walk. Men really do don a kicky pair of heels for "Walk a Mile in Her Shoes." Children and women can also walk for a pledge of $10.

Contact Hearts of Hope online here or by calling 269-1557 for more information. The walk begins at 10 a.m. that day with registration starting at 9 a.m. This organization is always looking for donations and volunteers.
