The local production of The Vagina Monologues' continues this weekend with two performances at Fletcher Hall and a late-night Saturday performance at downtown Esprit de Coeur. All proceeds from the nationally acclaimed play benefit Faith House, Lafayette's domestic violence shelter.
One has to wonder what Eve Ensler's award-winning play, "The Vagina Monologues" would resemble had it been written today, at a time when women's health and reproductive rights serve as pivotal policy points for old white men wearing suits and writing laws in Washington, D.C.
Our best guess is that the script, based on interviews with more than 200 women "about their memories and experiences of sexuality," would be just as compelling and brilliant as it is in its current form.

As part of the global V-Day movement to end domestic violence against women, all proceeds from the nationally acclaimed play benefit Faith House, Lafayette's domestic violence shelter.
The local cast of volunteer actors "gives us real women's stories of intimacy, vulnerability, and sexual self-discovery," according to the play's website. "It gives voice to women's deepest fantasies and fears."
Performances are scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday at Fletcher Hall, 9 p.m. Saturday at Esprit de Coeur and 2 p.m. Sunday at Fletcher Hall.
