Dave Spizale, general manager of KRVS 88.7 FM, is retiring in mid-June.
"It's a little way's away, but it is true," says Spizale, 59, who has 31 years at the regional public radio station.
The listener-supported station is licensed to UL Lafayette.
Spizale informed Jerry Luke LeBlanc, vice president for administration and finance, of his retirement plans in November. LeBlanc officially received the letter of retirement Dec. 5, according to UL's records.
KRVS, in the latter years of Dr. Ray Authement's tenure, reported to Della Bonnette, vice president for information technology until she retired in August 2008. After Bonnette's departure, the role of supervising KRVS shifted to finance and administration, more specifically Auxiliary Services.
Former TV executive Tom Pears, 56, joined UL as director of auxiliary operations Jan. 17. The position puts Pears over the university's postal services, bookstore, the Cajun Card, farm operations in Cade and KRVS. Currently, the postal services and farm operation managing positions are vacant.
"The university will do a search to replace the KRVS general manager," Director of Communications and Marketing Aaron Martin tells The Independent.
Spizale has been in the Deferred Retirement Option Plan, or DROP, for three years. He was eligible to retire three years ago but deferred that until May 31 of this year.
He is staying an additional two weeks to submit the station's financials to an independent auditing firm as required by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.
