The Lafayette City-Parish Council will consider an introductory ordinance at Tuesday's meeting that, if approved, would lead the way to further development of the Attakapas Ishak Multi-Use Trail. The first phase of the bike/pedestrian route, running from Parc Sans Souci downtown to Beaver Park, opened earlier this year. The ordinance before the council would clear the way for filing a grant application with the Federal Highway Administration Recreational Trails Program for Lafayette, a state-administered, federally funded grant program created more than 20 years ago, to enhance phase one with more pedestrian access and other amenities. Just more than $60,000 would be sought through the grant, which requires a 20 percent matching fund. In this case, according to the ordinance, the $15,200 local match will be in the form of in-kind services from LCG staff including engineering, planning, labor and materials.
