In prom night festivities March 24, The Ind's own Gracie Reaux was crowned Miss LHS. Gracie has worked at the paper since August 2010, starting as an intern and working her way up to assistant to the development director of special events.
Recognizing all-around contributions, academic excellence and school involvement, Mr. and Miss LHS are the highest honors bestowed on individual students at the school. Chase August is this year's Mr. LHS.
Gracie will graduate from the Lafayette Parish school system with a whopping 3.9 GPA, a ranking that earns her the No. 34 spot in her class of 468 students. And she's already got a résumé that takes most of us decades to develop. She's been on the Student Council for the past four years, currently serving as senior class rep, and was on the yearbook staff during her junior and senior years. She's also the president of the Principal's Student Advisory Board.
Also a well-rounded student, August is senior class president and member of the school choir, varsity track team, Senior Beta Club and Health Occupations Students of America. He plans to study chemistry.
Imagine Party Girl's surprise when she realized that four years ago, Kaitlyn Reaux, Gracie's older sis, was herself Miss LHS. Sisters sharing the crown has gotta be a first.
We'll miss our ace intern turned part-timer when she leaves for Loyola this fall, but who knows, she may be back. Even Party Girl knows the news biz is a hard habit to break (and she does plan to study graphic design!).
