There once were little more than simple T-shirts or athletic gear that allowed fans to show their pride. Today, the number and variety of officially licensed items for the UL Ragin’ Cajuns brand is as unique and plentiful as the fan base itself.

“The diversity of products shows how diverse and widespread our fan base has grown over the years,” says Aaron Martin, UL’s director of communications and marketing.

From wine glasses (and wine) to prayer flags, onesies, chic pieces for ladies and home goods, Martin’s office approves every design and every product that hits the shelves with an official license from the university.

“When you buy items that are officially licensed, the money goes back to support the university from athletics to research to academics,” Martin says.

This year alone, an onslaught of unique products and designs give even more options to fans.

“We have more women’s and children’s apparel than ever before,” Martin says.

They also have a plethora of tailgating items and food and beverage items. After the success of a UL branded wine, they endeavored into beer this year. The new ale from Bayou Teche, distributed by Schilling, is a craft beer — Ragin’ Cajuns Genuine Louisiana Ale — sold at games on tap and in bottles at local stores, while the new pint glasses can be purchased online at or the Bayou Teche Brewing Tap Room.

“The response has been huge,” Martin says, noting the beer was sold out before halftime at the first two home games.

Perhaps one of the most unique new products for the home to hit the UL fan base is a red and white prayer flag, which can also be used as a garland. Martin’s office designed the flag using the official fleur de lis turned into a snowflake. It can be purchased at Parish Ink.

Brother’s on the Blvd. has a line of Southern Marsh cobranded items for men and woman along with new vests.

Other co-branding endeavors include Polo Ralph Lauren, which gives fans looking for a less athletic look a great option.

While products are an easy buy for UL fans, Martin points toward a unique idea for nearly any adult on the list — gift certificates for continuing education classes. Whether it’s a class on photography or cake decorating, the potpourri classes at UL are diverse throughout the year.
